Ghana earns more slots in Huawei ICT competition

Following the impressive performance of Ghanaian student in the Huawei ICT competition, Ghana has being given more slots.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director for Huawei Technologies, Ghana, Tommy Zhou, at the 2018-2019 Huawei Ghana National ICT awards GALA.

Last year, 3 students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology emerged as top best three students from Africa in the global Huawei ICT Competition

He noted that due to this development, the country was made a priority.

In 2018, Huawei introduced two flagship ICT oriented initiatives to harness and develop Ghana’s ICT talents. These major programs were the Huawei ICT Competition and the Huawei National ICT Training Program.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a global competition for universities and colleges students with ICT background. The Competition is carried out at the National, Regional and Global levels.

“The competition aims at driving the development of high-quality ICT talents for industries and continues providing future driving forces and active participants for digital transformation. It also aims at promoting efficient mapping of talents supply and demand for a sustainable talent ecosystem.”

Complementing Ghana’s ICT Development

In addition to the Awards Scheme and as a direct fulfillment of the promise Huawei made to President Akufo-Addo on his visit to the Huawei Executive Briefing Centre in Beijing, China, Huawei established the Huawei ICT Training Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Communications and mobile network operators in Ghana.

Over the next three years, Huawei will train one thousand (1000) Ghanaians in ICT, to help nurture ICT talents in Ghana. The first batch of 30 trainees was trained as Huawei Certified Network Professionals at the ICT Training Centre located in the Huawei Ghana Building in Accra.

The 2019-2020 edition of the Huawei ICT Competition would be opened for registration in May, 2019.
