Ghana’s inflation at 6-year high, hits 19.2% for March

Inflation for the month of March 2016 has risen to 19.2 percent, the highest since August 2009.

The monthly change rate was 0.7 percent as compared to the 18.5 percent recorded in February 2016.

The inflation rate measures the average rise in the prices of all consumer goods and services in the country.

Announcing the figures, Government Statistician, Philomena Nyarko said the main drivers of the March inflation was Transportation and utilities.

In December 2015, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced a 59.2 per cent increase in electricity tariffs, while water went up to about 89 per cent.

In addition, fuel prices have also gone up by over 20 per cent since January this year.
