A presiding member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly; Bernard Oduro Tekyi is proposing that an Assembly Members fund be created so Assembly Members can also draw salaries just like their other state agents.
He called on the president to aside activating the system for them to be entitled to salaries as Members of Parliament and Ministers do; to also give legal backing to his Assembly Common Fund proposal falling on Sections 16 and 17 of the Local Government Act.
According to Hon. Tekyi, the burden on Assembly Members to answer social calls of constituents takes a toll on their finances adding putting Assembly Members on a GHS1000.00 monthly salary will be a step in the right direction.
“Even NABCO (Nation Builders Corps) are to draw salaries or allowances so why not the over 10,000 Assembly Members who deserve good entitlements too. I do trust the president will heed my call,” the Sunyani Local Government Unit member submitted.
