Ghana is set to benefit from a $1 billion agro-industrail facility for the production of fertilizer. The project would be constructed in the Volta Region. ,
The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto described the combination as a unique mix.
The American led delegation comprising, Chinese and Dubai Investors looking at agriculture and industry he noted is a great opportunity for job creation.
He said, usually investors come into the country with a focus on investing in a specific area but the team of investors, are focusing on agriculture and industrial development.
The investment will span over a period of three years the Minister said. The investors he explained are interested in Aveyime and its environs because it is a rice production area and the opportunities there.
‘’They can also have an insulation of various types of industries using local material which has potential for export. So that will include building of township for workers, and managers…It will turn Aveyime into a suburb of Tema linking with the Tema industrial zone.
It is an effective way of extending the Tema industrial zone further towards the Eastern part of the region and tapping into the rice, and maize production areas to add value to packaging.’’
He said it is a huge complex that they [investors] want to bring. The Minister stressed that we are looking at another agro-industrial enclave adjacent to Tema for access to the ports.
The project he revealed has been successful in Nigeria and they want to build that success story in Ghana.
