The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, says Ghana is set to significantly boost its electricity generation capacity with the development of a 900MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Takoradi.

In a Facebook post on June 5, 2026, the Minister disclosed that he held a productive engagement with the AKSA team and key energy sector stakeholders on the project, which is expected to strengthen the country’s power supply and support industrial growth.

“I had a productive engagement with the AKSA team and the energy sector stakeholders on the development of a 900MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Takoradi,” he wrote.

He noted that the project is currently scheduled for completion in December 2027 but has directed the developers to accelerate implementation.

According to him, discussions during the engagement focused on speeding up delivery timelines to meet growing national demand.

“During our discussions, I directed the AKSA team to accelerate implementation efforts and work towards completing the project by September 2027,” he added.

Dr Jinapor stressed that the project is a key strategic investment that will strengthen Ghana’s energy security and support industrialisation.

He expressed optimism that steady progress on the project would ensure its successful delivery within the revised timeline.
