CEO for Ghana Gas Company, Dr. Ben Asante has stated that 95% maintenance work has been completed at the Takoradi Regulating and Metering Station. This comes as good news considering it will reflect more gas production and subsequent supply to help the power situation in the country.

He has in this regard assured Ghanaians that the project which commenced about 12 months ago will be completed in the next 10 days to provide adequate gas so VRA could improve upon their power supply.

"This project was started about 12 months ago and I think from 10 days now it would be completed. This is a very pivotal place for us because this is where we actually sell the gas to VRA, Tema and to non-power customers who use it for ceramics"

Briefing the media during a tour of the Regulating station by officials including Energy Minister John Peter Amewu, Dr. Ben Asanti stated that the nearly completed work would help establish low cost of fuel for power generation in the country.

"Essentially this project would translate into a low cost of fuel for power generation. Power cost will run down.

The facility which currently has a storage capacity of about 150 mmscf upon completion would have a storage capacity of about 400mmscf.

The completion of the expansion works would pave way for the relocation of 470 MW Karpowership plant from Tema Fishing Harbour in the Greater Accra Region to the Western Naval Base in Sekondi.
