Ghana to host conference on ECOWAS Brown Card

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA - Ghana is to host the 25th Ordinary Session of the Council of Bureaux of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme from October 27- 31.

The Accra meeting, which is under the theme: "ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme: 25 years of Facilitating Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services for Regional Integration", is expected to attract 150 participants, a statement in Accra said on Thursday. Among those expected are insurance practitioners, representatives from the Office of the President, diplomats, ministers, a delegation from the ECOWAS Commission and the business community from the sub-region.

The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme was established by protocol to ensure free movement of persons, goods and services across national boundaries of member states and also to serve as a common insurance cover to facilitate compensation for Third Party victims of motor accidents. The card, which has been in existence over 25 years, is the ECOWAS equivalent of the green card in the European Community, the pink card of the Arab countries and the yellow card of the East African economic block. 16 Oct. 08
