Ghanaian Consortium To Bid For National Identification Project

A consortium of Ghanaian businessmen says it is sure to win the bid for the national identification project yet to be introduced next two years. The Finance Minister announced last Friday that by July 1, 2004, a new National Identification System will be introduced for residents in the country.

Some foreign companies have already expressed interest in the project, which is yet to be put on tender. But the local consortium made up of five Ghanaian companies does not seem perturbed about by their foreign competitors.

The local consortium comprises five different companies – Margins Company Limited, Third Rail Company, Sambus Limited, Soft Company Limited and Blue Chip Company Limited.

A member of the consortium, Moses Baiden of Margins Company told Joy News that the consortium has the technical know-how to under take the project effectively.

He says the consortium’s identity as a Ghanaian business body makes it stand a better chance than the other competitors.

Mr. Baiden said leading biometric companies in Europe have already been contacted to ensure an efficient output if they should win the bid.
