Sandema (U/E), Jan. 21, GNA- Mr. Andrew Awuni, Deputy Minister of Information on Wednesday advised the Builsa District Assembly to ensure that contracts are given out to competent contractors and completion of work clearly stated so that there would be no doubts about when such projects delayed.

He said any project given out on contract that is not started on time or is abandoned should be taken away from the contractor and given to a competent and serious person. " They clamour for contracts when they are called to bid, but not all of them are capable of doing the right thing", he added.

Mr. Awuni who said this at Sandema during the Builsa District People's Assembly, added that all contracts should be given under strict conditions including specifications and all that is expected of the contractor.

He was responding to complaints from some of the people that some projects in the district including the Sandema-Chuchuliga road and the Local Council office given out on contract had been abandoned. Dr. Agesika Agambila, Deputy Minister for Ports, Habours and Railways, called on the people to take education seriously and ensure that all their children are in school.

" It is only through education that we can progress. You should not therefore hesitate to invest the little that you have in educating your children.

Many of the people in the neighbouring communities complained of lack of teachers and text books in their schools, adding that some parents had started sending their children to stay and go to school in Sandema, the distrct capital.

They said the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) have no textbooks to prepare for the final exams and appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) for help.

Some women expressed appreciation to the government for the small-scale loans they have been getting, adding that it had helped them a lot.
