DUBLIN, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Irish-based Glencar Mining Plc said on Tuesday it had discovered significant gold mineralisation on a new prospect close to its existing Wassa mine in Ghana.

First phase exploration results at Bawdia Bosso, west of the Wassa mine, had indicated the presence of ore grade gold at shallow depths, Glencar said in statement. "These results reflect the very significant potential for the development of substantial additional reserves in new zones, separate from the existing workings," Chief Executive Hugh McCullough said.

Glencar said a total of 19 holes were drilled to a depth of 80 metres. Surface trenching had intersected up to 9.8 grams/tonne of gold over 11 metres, while drilling beneath this trench intersected six metres at 15 grams/tonne below 24 and 30 metres, it said.

Second phase drilling had already begun, the company said.
