Global Student Entrepreneur Awards names Ghana finalist

…As SMC University student takes traditional craft to the global finals

The Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s (EO) Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA), the premier global competition for students who have founded and operate businesses while attending college or university, today announced that Miriam Doe, SMC University student and founder of Dynera Beads & Brooches, was the winner of the National Competition.

Madam Doe will now move on to the Global Finals to compete for $250,000 in cash and in-kind business services at Washington, DC in November to fuel the next phase of her company’s growth.

Miriam Doe, founder of Dynera Beads and Brooches and 2013 Entrepreneurs’ Organization’s GSEA National Champion said “I have had a passion for entrepreneurship since I began helping my mum with her fashion business at home. I started from a very humble beginning by putting used fabrics, beads and buttons together. Kind words from people actually gave me the morale to convert my gift into business. This competition is an amazing opportunity for me to network with like-minded students and seasoned business veterans that will help me grow and develop as an entrepreneur.”

Doe, an MBA Student at the Swiss Management Center University, founded Dynera in April 2013. Dynera is her business brand name. Doe, an agribusiness consultant and business development strategist, designs and makes necklaces, earrings, bangles and brooches from local fabrics, beads and buttons.

The National Competition brought four finalists across Ghana, where they presented their current businesses and future projections, as well as their personal passion for entrepreneurship. The 1st runner up, Akua Sakyiwaa Yeboah, is a 3rd year Bsc. Marketing Student at GIMPA. The 2nd runner up, Samuel Baiden, is a 4th year Bsc. Accounting Student at Central University College. The 3rd runner up, Benjamin Sarquah, is a graduate of UCOMS, Kumasi Campus. Ms Miriam Doe, will challenge other national winners at Washington DC for the title of Global Student Entrepreneur of the Year, from more than 42 countries around the world.
