Gold Fields (GFI) announced that it had received ISO14001 certification at all of its operations worldwide. ISO 14001 is an international benchmark for environmental management systems developed by the International Standards Organisation (ISO).

The company's Tarkwa and Damang mines in Ghana as well as St Ives and Agnew mines in Australia have been recommended for ISO 14001 certification during the past weeks following comprehensive audits of all operations and processes by independent third party organisations.

Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) did the audits of the operations in Ghana and one of the Australia mines while SGS conducted the audit of one mine in Australia.

The Ghanaian and Australian operations join the Kloof, Driefontein and Beatrix mines in South Africa, which achieved their initial ISO 14001 certification in May/June 2002 and recently retained their certification following a comprehensive audit of surface installations and processes by BVQI.
