Gov’t ‘disappointed’ with JUSSAG over strike

Government has expressed disappointment with members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) for side-stepping leadership to embark on an indefinite strike.

According to the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, leadership of JUSSAG had agreed to government terms in the payment of the 10-month allowances.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Thursday, May 21, Haruna Iddrisu said though Alex Nartey, the President of JUSSAG, communicated government’s stance to members, they decided to unilaterally declare strike.

He intimated that a meeting will be held with leadership on Thursday afternoon to settle the impasse.

“I am optimistic that they should be back to work tomorrow or latest after the holiday on Monday,” Alhaji Iddrisu said.

JUSSAG declared an indefinite strike on Tuesday after claiming government has turned a deaf ear to their plea for allowances owed them since July, 2014.

Their strike action has brought to a standstill all activities at the country's courts.
