Government considers extending Kasoa-Winneba Highway project

Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam has announced that the government is considering extending the Kasoa to Winneba highway project beyond its originally planned endpoint in Winneba, recognizing its strategic importance for regional and international connectivity.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the highway with the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Finance Minister assured that the Ministry of Finance is committed to releasing funds promptly to facilitate the project's construction.

Mr Amin Adam highlighted the highway's significance, as it connects to other parts of the region and serves as a crucial link to other West African countries.

"This is a highway that links to Takoradi through Cape Coast and beyond," Mr Amin Adam explained.

"I was discussing with the Roads and Highways Minister that we should consider extending this contract to the border, given the quality of work being done here.

This extension would bring significant relief to the people, and the Roads and Highways Minister and I will collaborate to see how we can support this project."

He further emphasized the broader impact of the infrastructure investments, stating, "All the investments we are making are intended to make movement easier for people and goods, enhancing efficiency and productivity in Ghana.

I assure the Roads and Highways Minister that the Ministry of Finance will continue to provide support to ensure the completion of this project."

However, residents along the highway have raised concerns about safety issues, citing large gullies and the blasting of rocks along the construction route.

Addressing these concerns, Minister for Roads and Highways Francis Asenso-Boakye acknowledged the importance of safety and assured residents that specific safety issues would be addressed.

"Safety issues are important, and I know that safety measures have been put in place," Asenso-Boakye said.

"But if there are specific concerns that people are not happy about, we are ready to address them."
