CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr Saajida Shiraz, at the launch of the competition
The government, through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), has launched a singing competition, dubbed the ‘SLTF@20 Song Competition’, as part of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the fund.
Speaking at the launch of the competition on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr Saajida Shiraz, indicated that her outfit wants to mark its 20th anniversary by unearthing the biggest and next biggest artistes in Ghana.
She explained that the initiative falls in line with SLTF’s objectives of building the capacities and capabilities of Ghanaians for a brighter future.
“What we sought to do with this is that we wanted to platform student artistes… to uncover the next generation of musical talent in Ghana. Our work may be related to providing financing, but financing is targeted towards human capital development, and the creative arts are important elements of that,” she said.
Dr Saajida Shiraz went on to state that the competition was open to all tertiary students in the country, who may enter individually or as a group, urging women and persons with disabilities to participate.
To enter the competition, the students are required to produce a danceable track with a duration between 2 and 4 minutes, she said, adding that the song must be about the fund and its initiatives.
“The hook should be about SLTF at 20, and definitely the No Fee Stress initiative by President John Dramani Mahama. We are leaving it to your creative energies to determine what that is for you,” she said.
She went on to state that after the application process, the applicants would be shortlisted to 10, after which the competition would be opened to a public voting session, adding that “a final shortlist of three people would then make it to a grand final at 20 concerts.”
“But before then, all three shortlisted candidates will hit the music booth with production support from Shatta Wale to make a song, a studio-worthy song that is worthy of being performed at the grand concert to be announced.
“The winner of that concert will become the person who releases the official SLTF anthem. The song then becomes the official SLTF anthem,” the SLTF boss further stated.
The CEO also stated that the winner of the competition would be the official student ambassador for HotWav Ghana, the official partner of SLTF for the competition, and receive free music production support from award-winning artiste Shatta Wale.
The winners are also expected to receive huge cash prizes and a phone from HotWav.
