Hassan Ayariga promises meter-free water, electricity

The presidential candi­date for the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has outlined his policy proposals during a meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders As­sociations (GUTA) held in Accra on Tuesday.

His presentation focused on key reforms aimed at improving the economic landscape for Gha­naians.

Mr Ayariga proposed replacing the current meter billing system for electricity and water with a flat rate model.

He said under this new system, the amount landlords pay would be determined by the type of house they own, thereby simplify­ing billing and ensuring fairness in utility costs.

“There will be no meter for water and electricity in an APC government. The metering system is not effective and short-changing Ghanaians,” he said.

Emphasising the need for a shift in mindset, Mr Ayariga asserted that Ghanaians must take responsibility for building their own country.

He highlighted the importance of transparency within the pres­idency and the need to prioritise the interests of Ghanaian citizens and businesses in government policies.

Among his ambitious policy proposals is the establishment of a national data system and the im­plementation of a comprehensive national development plan.

He also suggested the intro­duction of an economic lockdown aimed at boosting local productiv­ity, addressing the urgent challeng­es faced by various sectors.

In a significant tax reform initiative, Mr Ayariga pledged to reduce the number of taxes from 32 to just five. He also promised to stabilise the Ghana cedi and increase the minimum daily wage from 18 to 300 cedis.

To combat corruption, he proposed a two-week salary pay­ment cycle and the establishment of a free port policy allowing for duty-free importation.
