President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 18th, October, 2017 launched the Digital Address System at the International Conference Centre in Accra.

Speaking at the launch, the President said that, the new system will help solve many of Ghana’s problems including removing blockage in accessing loans for even the lowliest in society.

He said that, “The Digital Address System also means that the ‘koko’ seller will be able to meet the basic requirement to access loan facilities from a bank.”

Nana Addo added that with the new system, every property in the country will have an address and can be accounted for.

The $2.5million GPS-based system was designed by indigenous IT firm, Vokacom.

So far, it has already been used to collate over 16 billion addresses.

Here are some seven facts you probably don't know about the Ghana Post GPS, Ghana's new Digital Address System.

1. The bid process started with an expression of interest

2. 29 companies applied in all

3. 6 were shortlisted

4. Out of the 6; 2 were non-compliant (based on the bid specifications) for various breaches at the bid opening

5. A third bid was too high; over Ghc 170mil

6. The three finalists were CERGIS, Melchia (Zoomlion) and Vokacom; and Vokacom emerged winners

7. Vokacom won the bid because they presented the best technical, marketing and financial plans for the project scope given.
