Here’s how much GoldBod earned in surplus

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed claims that the institution recorded more than US$1.7 billion in losses in 2025, saying its audited accounts instead show an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion.

Responding to claims by the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, that GoldBod incurred losses of $1.7 billion, equivalent to about GH¢22 billion, in 2025, during the Government Accountability Series on August 19, 2026, he indicated that GoldBod’s financial statements for the year ended December 30, 2025, recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion.

“The audited annual report and financial statements of Gold Board for the year ended December 30th, 2025, disclosed an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion,” he said.

Afenyo-Markin, cited IMF Country Report No. 26/213, noting that the alleged losses amounted to about 1.5% of Ghana’s GDP and described them as a “structural bleeding” of the national purse.

In reaction to the claim, Gyamfi insisted that GoldBod had not recorded the losses alleged by the Minority Leader.

He also said the Auditor-General’s review of GoldBod’s 2025 operations did not identify any adverse finding against the institution.

“Not a single adverse finding was made against GoldBod by the Auditor-General for the year 2025,” Gyamfi said.

He challenged Afenyo-Markin to produce evidence from the report he cited to support the alleged loss.

“I challenge Afenyo-Markin to point to any page, paragraph, sentence, phrase or punctuation mark in the said referenced report to prove the loss by GoldBod,” he added.
