Ho Sector of CEPS exceeded 2006 revenue target

Ho, Jan. 21, GNA - The Ho sector of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), has exceeded its 2006 revenue target by 16.22 percent, having bagged a net collection of 59.30 billion cedis instead of a target of 51.10 billion cedis.

Mr Fredua Agyeman-Boachie, Sector Commander of the Service announced this at an end-of-year get-together held for personnel and stakeholders of the Service in Ho on Saturday.

He described the success story of the sector as a "positive performance deviation" attributing it to the diligence, dedication and sacrifice of personnel.

Mr Agyeman-Boachie noted that the year under review had not been smooth, as inadequate staff and the lack of unavoidable logistical constraints posted perennial challenges to the sector's mobilization efforts.

He, however, commended other security agencies that occasionally complemented the sector's efforts with vital intelligence reports to enhance the arrest of smugglers.

Mr Agyeman-Boachie similarly expressed appreciation for the cooperation of informants whose assistance led to the arrest of over 31,000 pieces of smuggled African wax prints and over 300 cartons of cigarettes during the period.

He called for the decentralization of the informants' award to further improve the level of co-operation and commitment.

Mr Agyeman-Boachie gave the assurance that the Sector would remain focused towards making more gains in 2007 and appealed for co-operation from the public and stakeholders towards making this possible.

A total of 18 personnel from the 10 collection centres of the Sector were awarded for their meritorious performance in which Mr Robert Andam, an Assistant Collector at Leklebi Dafor and Mr Simon Amuzu a Junior Collector of the Tinjase Station emerged as the best senior and junior workers respectively.
