The Ho-West District Assembly has acquired 6,000 hectares of farmland for commercial cassava farming.

The project, being implemented under a block farming scheme, is in partnership with some technical partners from Agritop Company Limited, an Israeli firm.

Mr Samuel Ewoade, the Ho-West District Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the Fifth Anniversary celebration of the Congress of Paramount Chiefs and Queens of Ho-West at Dzolokpuita.

He said the Assembly had started demonstration farms in rice and vegetables, alongside the main project.

Mr Ewoade said the project was aimed at creating hundreds of jobs for young people and to ensure food security in the District.

The DCE said the Assembly was registering farmers and unemployed youths to be engaged in out-grower schemes.

He said two companies had approached the Assembly to process the cassava into chips and other derivatives.

Mr Ewoade said he was hopeful that the project would further open up the District and position it as a business and tourist destination.

He, therefore, challenged indigenes looking for greener pastures in urban centres to return home for work.

Mr Ewoade said the District’s potable water challenges were also being addressed and called for support from all to build a prosperous society.
