The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku, has shared how he generated significant revenue for the country while also boosting Ghana's lotteries back up in the world rankings.

During an exclusive interview with Asaase FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com, Samuel Awuku disclosed that when he took charge of the NLA, the charity bowl had nothing in its coffers. He gradually generated revenue by working hand in hand with his team.

According to him, he set a target for the marketing department to hit in order to generate revenue for the year.

"So, I tasked my team and gave them a target of GHc1.5 million to raise within a year. With motivation, staff morale, and pushing them, we made GH¢1.6 million that year. Then I set another target for my marketing team to raise GH¢3 million with the promise that if they reached the target, all the marketers would be flown to Singapore for training. That year, they raised GH¢3.2 million," he revealed.

Samuel Awuku further disclosed that after hitting the target in 2023, he tasked his team again to reach a target of GH¢4 million in 2024. However, the team has already hit the target before the end of the year.

He explained that his organization has also regained its international status and achieved some historic milestones.

"The NLA was expelled from the African Lotteries Association when I took over, but during my tenure, we worked our way back into the Association. I became the first Anglophone Director General to be elected by the Vice President of the African Lotteries Association. The NLA has also reconnected with its parent body, the Mortal Gaming Authority," he added.
