Huawei Ghana launches ICT training centre to promote Ghana’s digital economy

Huawei has launched the Huawei ICT Training Centre, an ICT Talent Ecosystem Program for Ghana at the Customer Service Innovation Centre (CSIC) of the Huawei Ghana Headquarters.

The nearly three-week program which commences from December 3 to 19, 2018 is expected to develop Ghana’s ICT talent pool, while giving the technology industry the opportunity to enhance and polish ICT skills to meet the increasing domestic and global demand.

The first class will attract 21 trainees from Huawei’s local partners in Ghana, including MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, AirtelTigo Ghana, IPMC and National Identification Authority (NIA).

The trainees will take courses in IP (Internet Protocol) HCNP (Huawei Certified Network Professional) Certification which will see them become certified Huawei IP HCNP professionals.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Communications Minister, Vincent Sowah Odotei lauded the initiative, emphasizing its role in government’s digitization agenda.

He affirmed the Communication Ministry’s keenness to partner with Huawei Ghana to build competent professionals in the field of ICT.

“We find this Huawei ICT training centre and the certified programmes that they are offering really in place and a timely intervention to enable us build a core capacity and core competencies in our professionals to ensure that we are able to properly leverage the benefit ICT brings. These Huawei certified programmes are key because we realize that the provision of core ICT skills is a global phenomenon. The current government will be a willing partner. The current government will not only be a willing infrastructure but will facilitate private sector participation to ensure our digitization agenda in all aspects of technology proceeds and we accelerate that,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Ghana, Tommy Zhou highlighted Huawei Ghana’s dedication to equipping Ghanaian students with the requisite skills to become senior IT experts.

“Huawei is dedicated to helping students become senior experts in meeting the requirements of ICT integration changes. By obtaining the HC Series certificate, it proves you have solid theoretical foundations and superb hands-on abilities,” he said.

As part of this program, Huawei will be carrying out several ICT certification programs including the Huawei ICT Academy for university students and industry practitioners, providing industry recognized certification HCNA, HCNP, HCIE, across extensive ICT technologies, such as Routing, Switching, Storage, Cloud Computing, and Security.

In order to further develop the ICT talent pool, the Huawei ICT Training Centre and the Certification Program is opened to all students from Ghanaian universities as well as industry players in the ICT ecosystem.

Huawei is also planning events including an IP Competition and IP Club for tertiary students to promote a greater understanding and interest in ICT while providing career defining opportunities to the students and professionals alike.
