Former Minister of Communications, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has claimed that the digitalization agenda spearheaded by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was his brainchild.

He stated that Dr. Bawumia cannot take full credit for Ghana's digital transformation, as he played a significant role in the achievements seen today.

Speaking on Adom FM, Spio-Garbrah said, “I’ve been talking about digitization for more than 20 years. What Bawumia is doing now is building on the structures we put in place.”

He further stated that the country's economic crisis can be traced to the alleged sale of Ghana Airways and its assets.

Since taking office in 2017, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and current presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has championed a transformative digital agenda that has significantly advanced the nation’s socio-economic development.

He has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at leveraging digital technologies to enhance governance, service delivery, revenue mobilization, financial inclusion, and innovation in Ghana.

Notable initiatives include the National Identification Card (Ghana Card), the Digital Address System, and the Mobile Money Interoperability Platform. Additionally, the Universal QR Code Payment System, the ECG Power App, the Paperless Port System, and the E-Services Portal (Ghana.gov) have revolutionized various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

These digital initiatives have substantially improved the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of public administration and service delivery.

Dr. Bawumia's initiatives have modernized various sectors, driving economic growth and establishing Ghana as a leader in digital innovation in Africa.
