Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his dedication to finishing the Tamne dam project, stressing its potential to significantly enhance agricultural activities, particularly dry-season farming.

Speaking during his day two of the National Campaign Tour in the Binduri Constituency, Mr. Mahama underscored the dam's capacity to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities for the youth in Garu, Tempane, Binduri, and Bawku West Districts.

He further noted that the Tamne Dam, once fully operational, would not only revolutionise agriculture in the region but also play a crucial role in job creation.

"The completion of this dam is essential for transforming agriculture here, particularly for dry-season farming, which can sustain livelihoods and stimulate local economies," he stated.

During his address, Mr Mahama noted that approximately 3,000 hectares of land have been earmarked for dry-season farming, thanks to the dam's prospective irrigation capabilities.

This land allocation, he added would bolster food production and ensure a stable income for farmers throughout the year, mitigating the seasonal challenges traditionally faced by the agricultural sector.

The construction of the Tamne dam began in 2016, intending to irrigate about 3,250 acres in the beneficiary communities. The project is expected to facilitate all-year-round farming, thereby enhancing food security and supporting the economic development of the region.

The former president further explained that the completion of the dam underscores his vision for sustainable agricultural development and job creation, which he believes are pivotal for the progress of the northern districts.
