Fri, 7 Nov 1997 Source: --

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 5 Nov. The Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware the Second, today called on journalists to be objective since their reports could destroy other people. The Asantehene made the appeal when executives of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) called on him at Manhyia. He called on them to strive to achieve the virtues of courage, honesty, truth and firmness in their profession to win the confidence of the public. The Asantehene promised to give the regional branch a piece of land for the construction of a secretariat and asked the executive to contact his private secretary to decide on a suitable area. Mr Nehemia Owusu-Achiaw, regional chairman of the association, thanked the Asantehene for his magnanimity. He said the branch is to launch an endowment fund soon, adding that a greater part of the amount will go into the construction of the permanent secretariat, which will be equipped with modern communication gadgets.
