IGP pays courtesy call on Acting Director General of GPHA

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Appeatu with other Police officials has paid a courtesy call on the Acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Michael Luguje.

The visit was to strengthen the ties between the two institutions as well as see how best they can collaborate together to achieve their respective goals.

The IGP expressed his appreciation to the Port Authority for the support they have been rendering to the Marine Police Unit and the Ghana Police Service.

He recalled how the Port Authority donated a pick-up vehicle to the Police to aid their patrol checks and improve security in the Tema region.

''We are so happy for the support you are giving us. I remember I was here at that time to also receive the pick-up from you to enable us to some patrol. But I want to assure you that in any way that we can, we will support you and we hope that this collaboration will yield some very excellent dividends for mother Ghana,'' he said.

The Acting Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Michael Luguje commended the Police service together with other security agencies for their immense role in ensuring that the Port and its environs are safe.

''Despite that for security the safety of our corridor, many of the customers choose to use our Port. And today we probably are the second in terms of volumes of transit from those landlocked countries,'' he said.

He stressed the need for the transit corridor to be safe in order for goods to arrive at their destinations after leaving the Port of Tema.

''When you travel that corridor all the way to Paga, Bawku or to Hamle you will notice that, in terms of security presence, the police is more present than customs. And at some instances you get complains from trucks that they get too many stops,'', he reported.

He affirmed that the Port Authority will continue to work with the Marine Police and render any support needed.
