IMANI to audit Ghana’s economic freedom credentials

IMANI Africa, a policy think tank, will be conducting an audit of economic policies in Ghana with the goal of increasing economic freedom and prosperity.

The audit will take place on 16 July 2018 and will be based on the Economic Freedom of the World Index.

The index provides a comprehensive description of an economy, examining five economic policy dimensions: size of government, legal systems and property rights, sound money, freedom to trade internationally, and regulations. In detail, the index shows the current status of economic policy and how the policy can be improved. It also provides models of world class policy that, if implemented, would bring renewed growth and prosperity to Ghana.

Over 100 specially selected persons from academia, industry, government, diplomats, economic and international business associations, think tanks, CSOs and media are expected to take part in the exercise.

A report on the results of the discussions will be drafted and distributed to participants for comments and discussion before the final report is written. The final report will then be prepared and presented to the public, government, media, researchers, businesses and opinion leaders.

Monitoring work will track the progress of the reforms and report to the public.

The audit is a collaborative enterprise between IMANI, the Fraser Institute, Atlas Network and DANIDA.

Prof. Godfred A. Bokpin Head, Department of Finance of University Ghana Business School in Legon, will moderate the workshop.

Prof. Bokpin combines three broad disciplines of Accounting, Finance and Economics and the interrelations between them.
