Implement new pay policy by end of August – CLOGSAG

Accra, Aug. 4, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Branch of Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) on Thursday resolved that they could no longer wait for the implementation of the new pay policy beyond August 31, this year.

They contended that all grades within the Civil and Local Government Services should be migrated or converted onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) without any further delay.

“In view of the seriousness members attach to the issue, we have resolved to start wearing red bands with immediate effect,” in a statement signed in Accra by Mr Samuel Nii Clottey Collison, Acting Greater Accra Regional Secretary of CLOGSAG after a meeting.

The statement said: “If our request is not heeded to, the Greater Accra Regional branch would advise itself on the appropriate action to embark on.”

It said the meeting was held to discuss the delay in the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy, which to the expectation of members, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) had not taken adequate steps to allow for effective migration onto the SSSS.

“Consequently, it has brought about frustration and anxiety among the rank and file of our membership causing them to put undue pressure on the Regional and District Executives,” it added.

The statement noted that on-going negotiations between FWSC and CLOGSAG had been bedevilled with negotiations in bad faith, as time and again, the Commission had reneged on agreed positions at meetings and aware of unfair labour practices initiated by the Commission through their utterances and the media.

It said through the media, the Commission had promised to migrate grades within the Civil and Local Government Services onto the SSSS by the end of July, this year, but that could not materialise creating anxiety among all CLOGSAG members.

“...The Commission is not making any effort to explain its inability to honour its promises on the migration of our members, CLOGSAG members should not be made to suffer for the inadequacies and inefficiencies of the Commission,” the statement said.
