Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency Adams Mutawakilu has stated that the increment of tariffs will affect Ghana’s economic performance.

This follows the recent approval by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) of the increment of electricity tariffs by 11.17% intended to take off on July 1st.

According to Mr Mutawakilu the effect of the increment is destructive considering the collapse of businesses in the country has rendered many individual unemployed and without a source of income to pay for basic needs.

“It will not be easy for Ghanaians to shoulder this increment based on what the economic performance of this government, businesses are collapsing, small and medium scale businesses are not performing, many people have been laid off, over thousands of people have been laid out but they will consume power”.

He added that the situation will worsen the plight of businesses and households.
