India to set up IT institute in Ghana

New Delhi (India) -- The government of India on Thursday said it will set up three institutes in Information Technology in Ghana, Mongolia and Vietnam, while a cyber city being built in Mauritius is nearing completion.

"The efforts will create strong linkages with these countries in the IT sector", IT Secretary Rajeeva Ratna Shah said in his address at the Indiasoft 2003 here.

Shah said in the previous budget also, the government had tried to rectify some of the fiscal anomalies being faced by the hardware industry. This exercise to strengthen the hardware sector, he hoped, will be given a boost in the oncoming budget.

The IT Secretary urged the international community to adhere to the Intellectual Property Rights(IPRs) in the software development.

He said illegal replications of software are taking place. He also expressed the need for "wiring" the domestic industry which would create more opportunities for the software scetor.

In his address, Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Thailand, Dr Surapong Suewonglee said his country was looking at "meaningfull" tie-ups with India in the e-commerce, e-governance and third-party outsourcing contracts.
