Spelling Bee champions
The lead sponsor of the Spelling Bee competition in Ghana, Indomie, is excited that the competition was won by a female participant. Afua Ansaa Manukure, a pupil of the Ridge Church School, beat 137 other competitors to win the national championship.
Indomie believes the victory by Ms. Manukure will spur girls on to aspire being the best and seeing themselves as capable of doing anything a boy can do.
In a statement, Indomie also commended organisers of the competition, Young Educators Foundation, for giving the opportunity to visually impaired pupils from Akropong School for the Blind to also take part in the competition. One of them, Emmanuel Asamoah, was among the seven-best spellers and received several commendations for his performance.
Events Manager at Indomie Agnes Botchway said: “The victory by Ms. Manukure and participation of pupils from Akropong School for the Blind made the event special and very inspiring”. She said Indomie is proud to be associated with the competition, and will continue supporting such programmes that seek to develop the potential of young people.
Indomie’s sponsorship covers the competition’s organisation from its beginning to the national finals, as well as the national champion’s participation at the International competition in the United States of America.
The first runner-up was Lord Awingor Mba of the University of Cape Coast Primary, while Emil Abagrey of Mary’s Child placed third.
