Industry players must take advantage of local automobile business

Mr Carlos Ahenkorah, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, has entreated industry and business players to purchase locally assembled brand new vehicles.

Mr Ahenkorah noted that buying brand new vehicles assembled in Ghana would expand the Ghana’s economy as more jobs would be created to absolve the large number of unemployed youth.

He gave the advice during the 2019 annual customer appreciation day of the Zonda Tec Ghana Limited held at its head office in Tema.

He said buying brand new cars saved a lot of money on maintenance compared to the used imported ones adding that its was cheaper also as it came without the import duties and other charges.

He added that following government’s launch of the automotive policy, vehicle assembly companies including Toyota and Nissan had established branches in Ghana to put brand new vehicles on the market.

According to him, the automotive policy was initiated as part of government’s resolve to develop a new industry to support the economy instead of overly relying on cocoa, timber and gold.

Mr Ahenkorah stressed that a country that did not have the appropriate transport infrastructure would have her development hampered, the reason why, according to him, government was investing in Ghana’s transport sector through the expansion of railway lines as well as the construction of needed roads.

He commended Zonda for establishing its plant in Ghana and providing industries with durable and efficient new trucks.

Madam Yang Yang, Chief Executive Officer, Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, said her outfit was ready to partner government to provide durable but affordable light and heavy duty equipment to Ghanaians.

Madam Yang added that the Company would from 2020 provide free maintenance training to drivers and mechanics of clients to ensure that vehicles purchased from them would be properly maintained.

While thanking all clients for being part of the success story of the company, she urged them to drive safely to avoid accidents especially during the Christmas festivities.

She presented five tricycles to Mr Ahenkorah, who is the Member of Parliament for Tema West, to facilitate his constituency duties as part of Zonda’s corporate social responsibility.

Mr Isaac Amo-Baning, Human Resource Director of Zonda, in a welcoming address, said the company entered into Ghana's automobile industry in 2010 adding that the customer appreciation day was organized not to only honour their clients but also to take feedback from them and get closer to them.

Clients received hampers and tricycles with Perristeuo Ghana Limited receiving a special award while Global Cargo was awarded with two trucks for purchasing 100 trucks from the company.
