The Ministries of Trade and Industry and Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, on Friday launched the First International Beer and Wine Festival in Accra.

The three-day event scheduled to take place on 12, 13 and 14 of February, to showcase various beer and wine brands in the country and abroad, is being organised by the Ghana Industrial Holding Company, in collaboration with TT Brothers and the Royal Protocol Services.

The slated event would be on the theme “Tickle Your Taste Buds-Tickle Your Love Life”.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said Tourism is an integral part of national development, and that the Ministry is committed to promoting and co-ordinating all tourism activities in the country.

“It is the Ministry's belief that public private partnerships programs and activities such as beer and wine festival, would contribute significant impacts to the industry and contribute to the Gross Domestic product” she added.

She said the event would be a major source of employment to the youth, and provide consistent framework to measure the significant social, environmental; and economic impacts of the industry on the economy.

“The event would also help to deal effectively with the excesses and social risks of alcohol abuse through healthy interactive sessions and identify opportunities for the local businesses”

Mr Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry said the brewery and winery industry plays a major role in promoting national development in its overall social, economic and educational development.

He said the Ministry sees the industry as a key player in transforming the country’s economy into a major manufacturing value added and commercial hub within the sub-region, and educate consumers and the public on pertinent issues of lifestyles and health.

Mrs Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Exhibition Director for the Event, urged the public to take advantage and learn first-hand about beer and wine, and take heed on the counsel on health and life.
