Domestic airline operators in the country are being forced to cancel scheduled flights as a result of bad weather.

Ghana’s harmattan season, which comes with cold and dryness particularly in the mornings, started becoming visible on Tuesday, December 1.

As a result, domestic airlines like Starbow have since Wednesday suspended flights to the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale, Kumasi and Sunyani, which is known to be relatively humid areas and have been mostly affected by the onset of the harmattan.

But speaking to Kasapa News, the Corporate Communications Manager for the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Eric Mireku Amaning says international flights have not been cancelled because the harmattan is not severe in Accra, from where most of these flights take off.

He further downplayed rumours that Ghana has a weaker Global Positioning System (GPS).
