J.H. Mensah, Bannerman to retire from Anglogold Ashanti Board

Accra, April 10, GNA - Mr J.H. Mensah, former senior minister under the Kufuor Administration, and Mr Reginald Bannerman, a Ghanaian lawyer, have given notice of their intention to retire from the Board of AngloGold Ashanti.

Their retirement will take effect from the annual general meeting of the company to be held on May 15, 2009, according to a statement issued by the company received in Accra, on Friday.

The statement said in addition, Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, a South African member of board, has also give notice of his impending resignation from the board as he is standing for political office in the forthcoming general elections in South Africa. Mr Bannerman, 75, was appointed to the board in February 2006. He has been in law practice since 1958 and is the principal partner at Messrs Bruce-Lyle, Bannerman & Thompson Attorneys in Ghana. He is a member of the General Legal Council of Ghana and a member of the board of the Valco Trust Fund.

A former lecturer in law at the Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, he was also formerly the mayor of Accra. Mr Mensah, 81, joined the Board in August 2006. He was also chairman of the National Development Planning Commission under the Kufuor Administration and former MP for Sunyani East.

AngloGold Ashanti was established in 2004 through a merger between AngloGold of South Africa and the then Ashanti Goldfields of Ghana.
