Accra, June 25, GNA - The Japanese Government on Friday signed a 34 million dollar grant agreement with the Ghana government for the completion of the Mallam-Yamoransa road, which began two years. A 25 million-dollar grant was signed between the two countries for the first phase in 2002 out of a total project cost of about 60 million dollars.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana's Foreign Minister and Mrs Kazuko Asai, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana who signed on behalf of their respective countries, underscored the importance of the route in the integration efforts of the West Africa sub-region. Nana Akufo-Addo expressed Ghana'a gratefulness to the Japanese government for the constant show of solidarity and support saying, "The first phase of the funds was judiciously used and a successful work was done". He said the government would do everything possible to ensure completion of the project.

Mrs Asai stressed the need for the government to put in efforts that would ensure the maintenance of the road when completed saying, "It is very important to check movement of vehicular axel weight".
