Job creation not government’s responsibility

The man behind one of Africa’s largest software development companies- SOFTtribe Limited, Herman Chinery-Hesse has said that creation of jobs for the people is not the responsibility of the government.

Mr. Chinery-Hesse, speaking at the third Amicus Onlus (a youth organization) Youth Empowerment summit said government’s responsibility is to create the enabling environment for the private sector to exploit.

Making a presentation on the topic “The top five business opportunities in Ghana and how the youth can take advantage of them” he advised the youth to do away with the job seeking mentality and see themselves as creators of jobs.

The Minister of Manpower Development, Youth and Employment Nana Akomea said development of skills and entrepreneurial potentials of the youth to enable them integrate into the business community was the major concern of his ministry.

According to the Minister, government has set up various micro-credit facilities to assist the youth who have acquired some skills to realise their dreams. Nana Akomea commended Amicus Onlus for the enthusiasm and professionalism that it exhibited in organizing the summit.

He pledged his ministry’s preparedness to collaborate with Amicus Onlus to train the youth to acquire productive skills.

The President of Amicus Onlus International, Reverend Father Caesar Atuire who is currently the first Non – Italian Director General of the Opera Romana Pilgrimage of the Vatican disclosed that by next year, AO would open a medical university college to train nurses to help in health service provision especially for the poor in the country.

He advised the youth to use their time productively to enable them achieve the best out of their lives.
