Residents of the Koforidua Municipality have called on transport unions to reduce lorry fares in view of the 10 percent reduction in fuel prices.
This came out in a survey the GNA conducted in the Koforidua Municipality.
Mr Narh Akorli, a boutique owner, said the reduction in fuel prices must reflect in transport fares.
He said even a small reduction in fares would reduce prices of goods especially food items since transportation cost played a major role in the determination of prices of foodstuffs.
Mr Prince Hakeem, a businessman, said transport fares needed to reflect the changes in fuel prices for the benefit of ordinary people.
Mr Desmond Afetsi, a student, said transport unions must show respect for the citizens of the country by reducing the fares because the slightest increase in fuel prices often comes along with increase in transport fares.
Mr Ameyaw Francis, a Municipal Guard, said it was cheating for the unions to hold on to the old fares when they are buying fuel at reduced prices.
Mama Afia Sika said the 10 percent reduction in fuel price was welcome news but passengers did not feel its essence as they are still paying the old fares.
A driver who spoke on anonymity said, the citizens deserved a fair share of the fuel price reduction, adding “it is irritating that car owners seem to be the beneficiaries as they still demand the same daily sales.”
