Kadentwen Irrigation Project to be reactivated

Kete-Krachi, Jan.4, GNA - The abandoned Kadentwen Irrigation Project near Kete-Krachi is to be reactivated to produce an all year round vegetables to offset the dry season shortage in the area. The area, though in the Volta Region has similar climatic conditions as the northern regions with only one major raining season in the year.

Mr Mensah Damatia, Krachi West District Chief Executive announced this at a Youth Rally at Kete-Krachi at the weekend.

He said the Government would soon put a pontoon on the Volta Lake to cruise between Kete-Krachi and Kwadwokrom in the Brong-Ahafo region. Mr Yaw Osei-Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Krachi-West, urged the youth not to be partisan on issues affecting the development of the area and forge ahead in unity to develop the district.

He pledged to provide 100 million cedis from his share of the Common Fund to purchase cement to rehabilitate some schools in the district, and an additional 200 million cedis for the provision of potable water.

Mr Osei-Sarfo also pledged five million cedis to an Education Endowment Fund launched by the Krachi Youth Association. Mr Moses Ponyah, President of the Association appealed to the citizens to enter the New Year with a vision to refrain from indulging in conflicts that had affected their development.

Mr J. D. K. Ntoso, former DCE for the area, asked the people to cooperate with the assembly to develop the area.

He advised the youth not to usurp the roles of the assembly and traditional rulers.
