The 225-megawatt capacity Karpower barge which arrived in Ivory Coast on Sunday, was on Tuesday moved to anchorage at a fishing harbour in Abidjan where it is expected to set sail to Ghana.

This was after port workers managed to lift the barge from the Black Marlin, a speed deck cargo ship that transported the barge from Turkey, onto a smaller ship which towed it to anchorage at the Port de pêche in Abidjan.

"They have taken the barge from the marine ship to the fishing port. It's now at anchorage at the Port de pêche," a TV3 source who works at the port revealed. It's not clear when the barge will set off for Ghana.

Government officials have indicated the barge, which is being brought to augment the country's electricity supply, is expected to arrive in Accra on November 27, after which it will take about a week to connect it to the national power grid.

It appears the arrival of the barge will delay considering it will take about five days for it to be towed from Ivory Coast to the Tema Port.
