The Vice-President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), MR J. Atta-Nyamekye, has urged small-scale entrepreneurs to ensure that they keep proper records to enhance the performance of thier business. He said the changing economic situation in the country makes it extremely important to keep up-to-date records of business operations. Mr Atta-Nyamekye was speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop on "Record keeping" for 30 participants from small and medium scale enterprises in Accra yesterday.
The participants who were drawn from Accra and Tema metropolis will be taken through topics in basic record- keeping, including costing, pricing and budgeting and the operations of the VAT system.
The workshop is jointly organised by the AGI and Friedrich Nauman Foundation (FNF).
Mr Atta-Nyamekye said at the contributions by small scale enter-prices because of the significant roles they play in the economy. He said the challenges posed by the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) offers opportrunities for businesses to improve and expand addding that these challenges can only be overcome if business put thier records in order.
The Vice-President gave the assurance that the AGI has re- directed its attention on developing the human resources base of entrepreurs and urged participants to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the workshop.
The Resident Representative of FNF,mrs Eva-Maria Kholer, said the contributions of the small and medium-scale enterprices in the areas of construction, mechanics, electrical and metal works have produced skilled and semi- skilled workers which form the basis for Ghana's future industiral growth.
