Kejetia redevelopment project designs changed; only 110 cars can access facility

Investigations conducted by Abusua Dawuro has only one hundred and ten (110) cars can have access to the yet to be completed Kejetia bus terminal after the Kejetia redevelopment project.

Kejetia was the biggest lorry terminal in the Ashanti Region before its redevelopment.

A visits to the project site revealed other spaces that used to serve as lorry terminals have been turned into stores which will make it difficult for vehicles to enter the new kejetia after its completion.

The first phase comprises construction works at the Kejetia bus terminal to be completed within a period of 24 months and estimated to cost $198 million.

The second face and third phases would focus on the re-development of the Kumasi Central Market.

Meanwhile both traders and drivers are complaining bitterly about lack of spacious bus terminal in the Kejetia Redevelopment project.

Drivers and Traders speaking to our reporter, Osei Kwadwo said the architectural design will have negative affects on trading activities in the Ashanti Region.

Before the construction of the Kejetia market, the contractor promised the traders and drivers upon completion, the Kejetia market have a convenient parking area for vehicles, modern bus terminal, fire station, clinic, police station, crèche, communication facilities with modern security features.

The contractor also promised to provide modern sewerage and sanitation facilities for patrons of the market.

However, Consultant for the Contracta firm, Emmanuel Danso in an interview revealed that Kejetia bus terminal cannot contain more cars after the completion of the project.
