Mr. Kaledzi being assisted by Mr. Elkin Pianim to launch the MV KLAEDZI Vessel at Sedorm-Yiti
Kete Krachi Timber Recovery Limited, (KKTR), operator of the Volta Lake Timber concession for the salvage of timber from under Lake Volta, has named its new Fishing Trawler after Mr. Vincent Kwamitse Kaledzi – Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil Ghana and one of Ghana’s most illustrious fishermen.
At the naming and launching ceremony at its Project Centre at Sedorm-Yiti, near Akosombo in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern Region at the weekend, Mr. Francis Mawuena Kalitsi, Chairman of KKTR, said naming the trawler after Mr. Kaledzi is “a testament to the contribution and crucial role played by Mr. Kaledzi in the operations and very existence of KKTR”.
He said the professional and fatherly advice offered the company in its formative years when Mr. Kaledzi was then President of the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council (NICFC) – an umbrella-body for Fishermen and women who ply their trade from the Volta Lake – has been the guide-post for the current state of KKTR.
In response Mr. Kaledzi, winner of the 2nd National Best Farmer award in 2003, said the major ingredients for success of any enterprise are transparency, honesty, fairness and integrity – qualities which he observed the ‘Management of KKTR have maintained so far’.
He said the Volta Lake provides livelihoods for 1,600 communities abutting 32 districts in 8 regions of Ghana, and it is therefore important that any activity on the lake must take cognisance of the people’s interest therein – as KKTR has and continues to do.
The trawler’s launching, Mr. Kaledzi said, will go a long way to assist fishermen and women and entire communities in transportation, fishing and rescue operations, as well as supporting the creation of jobs for locals. He expressed his appreciation to the management of KKTR for the honor done him.
Elkin Pianin, Chief Executive of KKTR, said the new vessel adds to the company’s fleet on the lake and marks an important evolution of its operations as well as its relationship with the fishing communities and other stakeholders.
Mr. Jacob Ageke Tetteh, President of the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council, was of the hope that the company will continue living in harmony and cooperation with members of the Council for their mutual benefit.
KKTR is a wholly Ghanaian-owned company inaugurated by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November 2018 as One District, One Factory for the Asuogyaman distrct of the Eastern Region, with the concession to salvage recoverable hardwood submerged by creation of the Volta Lake in 1964.
