Koomson’s GFL divided against itself

Cracks are emerging in the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL) over its law suit against the Trades Union Congress (TUC) for allegedly submitting a name to the Presidency, unilaterally, for confirmation as Chairman of the National Labour Commission (NLC) without consulting other unions.

The Federation accused TUC Secretary Kofi Asamoah, of smuggling Edward Briku Buadu’s name to the Presidency without the blessing of the Ghana Employers’ Association.

However, another union within the Federation, National Union of Teamsters and General Workers, has broken ranks with the action taken by Secretary Abraham Koomson.

Its Secretary, Desmond Sackey told XYZ News that the Federation has no right to go to court without the blessing of all its subsidiary groups.

He accuses GFL’s Secretary General, Abraham Koomson, of flouting due process and by so doing, committing the same infraction he accused the TUC Secretary of.

Desmond Sackey said he believes the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) was duly informed by Organised Labour’s choice of Briku Boadu as Chairman of the NLC and adds that he should be given the chance to prove himself.

On the flipside however, Koomson has dared the dissenters to resort to the Court for redress if they so wish.

He also imputed that Desmond Sackey may have been influence by some unseen hands to turn his back on the Federation’s action.

According to him, the Federation will deal with “such characters” per its rules and regulations for breaking ranks with the Federation by resorting to the media.
