Accra, July 8, Mr Kwesi Akomea Kyeremanteng (NPP Afigya Sekyere East) today appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate roads in his constituency. In his maiden statement to the house, Mr Kyeremanteng who was sworn in two weeks ago, said the area produces a lot of cocoa and foodstuffs yet the roads there are deplorable. He appealed to the authorities to come to the aid of cocoa farmers in the constituency who are currently facing shortage of insecticides. Mr Kyeremanteng said though some towns in his constituency have benefited from the Self Help Electrification Project (SHEP), a lot more needs to be done. He cited the example of Tano Odumase, part of which has not enjoyed electricity for about a year now because of a faulty transformer. He said some towns which have erected their low tension poles are yet to be connected. "I will therefore appeal to the Electricity Corporation of Ghana to expedite action on the provision of high tension facility for them to reap the fruits of their self help spirit". Mr Kyeremanteng appealed to the Ministry of Education and donor agencies to come to the aid of four senior secondary schools in the constituency which are collapsing. Commenting on the statement, Mr S. K Balado Manu (NPP Ahafo Ano South), said rural areas lack adequate road networks and reiterated the appeal to the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate rural roads to allow free flow of foodstuff and other produce. Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah (NPP Afigya Sekyere West) noted that the recent increase in the price of insecticides for cocoa from 3,000 cedis to 20,000 cedis will not augur well for the industry. He called on the authorities to consider the effect of such price increases before effecting them.
