LGWU vows to fight for improved working conditions

The Local Government Workers Union (LGWU) has signaled its determination to unite and fight to make things better for its members.

Mr. Thomas T. Kugyan-Tira, its National Chairman, said the leadership would go to all lengths to build a strong and vibrant union, which would better represent and articulate the concerns of the workers.

He was addressing the staff of the Asante-Akim South District Assembly as part of a nationwide drive to strengthen its membership.

He was emphatic that the LGWU was completely different from the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) and that, many of its members had joined the latter because they had been misled.

The Chairman said time had come to help such members to rejoin the union.

Mr. Daniel Lawrence Osei, the Human Resource Officer of the assembly, applauded the leadership for the effort and commitment to make the union more attractive.

This, he noted would be to the advantage of the workers as it would now provide the opportunity for them to make an informed choice – where they might want to belong.

An eight-member district executive, chaired by Mr. Opare Asamoah, the District Budget Officer, was later sworn into office.
