The LPG Marketing Companies Association have refuted claims of opposing the implementation of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) being undertaken by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).
This comes after they accused the CEO of NPA, Mustapha Hamid, of making 'unfair and derogatory' remarks against the Association regarding their purported refusal to implement the CRM.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 21, the LPG Marketers Association said they found the remarks made by the NPA CEO as 'very ironic and disingenuous.'
“There are clear differences between opposition and competition, in our humble opinion. Our requests to mount cages in all our LPG stations across the country to support the policy by distributing CRM cylinders were vehemently turned down by the NPA," the statement read.
“We, therefore, find it very ironic and disingenuous that the CEO will turn around and accuse us of being backward-looking and not wanting change. We take very serious exception to that derogatory statement,” it added.
The Association emphasized their engagement in extensive discussions with the NPA, asserting that they support both the existing refilling system and the CRM concurrently.
They also mentioned that their promotional efforts aim to advocate for increased LPG usage to benefit environmental protection and indigenous businesses, rather than obstructing CRM initiatives.
Additionally, the Association expressed disappointment over the NPA's refusal to allow them to install cages for CRM cylinders at their LPG stations nationwide.
They, therefore, called for a more comprehensive and factual dialogue on the socioeconomic implications of CRM implementation for all stakeholders involved.
