Staff of La Beach Hotel in Accra embarked on a protest on Thursday, May 18 to press home their demands for a minimum 15 per cent increment in salary.
Scores of workers were clad in red armband and red headgear and tied red cloth to a post at the entrance of the hotel
According to the aggrieved workers, their request for salary increment, which dates as far back as eight months ago, is to cushion them against rising costs of living. Some of the workers who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity revealed that they decided to embark on the protest because the General Manager walked out of a meeting to address the issue on Wednesday, May 17.
This, they claimed, was disrespect to them and their last resort was the protest.
Meanwhile, leadership of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) are in a meeting with management of the hotel to find an amicable solution to the matter.
