The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, has called on large-scale mining companies to move beyond extraction and actively mentor Ghanaian businesses operating within the mining and minerals value chain.
Speaking at the Mining and Minerals Convention in Accra, he said the mining sector must be anchored in local empowerment.
Alhaji Sulemana noted that an inclusive and innovative approach would drive growth, facilitate skills transfer, and promote sustainable development.
He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to digital transformation, pointing to the adoption of technology for equipment tracking, mineral traceability, and monitoring as key steps toward transparency and efficiency.
“The future we are building requires a strong partnership between government, the private sector, financiers, civil society, academia, and of course, our communities. This competition provides a platform to share ideas, debate solutions, and forge collaborations that will shape Ghana's mining story for generations to come,” he said.

“So I say to the large-scale mining companies, partner with us in this new vision, invest in our downstream projects, mentor businesses in the value chain, and exceed your environmental and social obligations. To our small-scale miners, the government is your partner,” the deputy lands minister added.
He also extended support to small-scale miners, assuring them that the government views them not as adversaries, but as partners in progress.
“This digital leap, incorporating fintech-enabled solutions, will deliver unprecedented transparency and boost investor confidence,” the said.
The convention brought together industry leaders, academics, and innovators, serving as a collaborative space to exchange ideas and shape the future of Ghana’s mining sector.
