Nana Ato Arthur, Head of the Local Government Service has challenged local Assemblies to support President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's vision of a Ghana beyond aid by pursuing local economic development.

"Local Assemblies must look at their localities beyond aid. They must understand the concept at the local level", he stated.

Nana Arthur, who was speaking to the media at Jasikan during the President’s tour of new regions, said it was important for local Assemblies to help the people appreciate government policies and own them for rapid socio-economic development at the local level.

He asked them to domesticate the various flagship policies of government towards realising the dream of economic independence to chart their own development path.

Nana Arthur said Assemblies must be innovative on raising more internally generated fund and let the people understand the need to honour tax obligations and pay property rates and other levies promptly for local and national development.

He said the Assemblies must also exhibit innovation around pressing issues such as sanitation, and asked them to work together with chiefs to ensure that cities and towns were clean.
